Sequel to the announcement of domestic flight resumption effective July 8th, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria(FAAN) has released a new Standard Operating Procedure(SOP) that will guide the conduct of air passengers and other airport users. This is aimed at protecting all stakeholders and preventing further spread of the COVID-19 virus.
According to the press release signed by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, departing passengers, in the “New Normal” must arrive at the airport fully kitted with their face masks on, ensure minimum of one and a half meters (1.5m) physical distancing and submit themselves to screening by Aviation Medical/Port Health Personnel.
On arrival at the airport, all passengers’ baggage will be disinfected before access to the departure hall is granted while all foot wears will be disinfected/sanitized by foot mats placed at all entrances to the terminal building.
Hand sanitisers will be provided for passengers before entrance into the departure halls, at the waiting halls/lounges and pre boarding gates. Passengers travelling with pets must provide necessary clearance from Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services.
However, arriving passengers on disembarkation from the aircraft must observe physical distancing as they board the coaches likewise at the baggage claim area. Hand sanitisers will be provided inside the coaches as well as the baggage claim area.
At departure from the baggage claim area, disinfected trolleys will be available for passengers while it is expected that passengers should exit the hall and head straight to the car park for pick up.
It is also advised, that all passengers are required to maintain social distancing and make use of floor markings at the security screening area and comply with all other security guidelines as laid down by officials of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) department.
